Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 8: Social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, popularly known online as The Rebel Kid, has shared a disturbing Instagram post featuring screenshots of rape, acid attack, and death threats she has received amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the show India’s Got Latent.
In the post, Apoorva included several abusive comments directed at her and captioned it: “and that’s not even 1%”, highlighting the extent of the online harassment. The influencer had previously deleted her posts but has now returned to social media to publicly address the toxic backlash.
Apoorva has been in the spotlight since February after the India’s Got Latent podcast episode sparked outrage. The show, which featured content creators like Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, and Ashish Chanchlani, drew criticism for promoting obscenity and making sexually explicit remarks, especially following a viral controversial comment made by Allahbadia about a contestant’s family.
Following public outrage, Ranveer Allahbadia issued an apology, stating, “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte, I am just here to say sorry.” He also pledged to use his platform more responsibly, adding, “Family is the last thing that I would ever disrespect.”
On April 6, comedian Samay Raina appeared before the Guwahati Crime Branch for questioning related to the case. The investigation stems from an FIR registered on February 10 by Guwahati Police against multiple influencers for allegedly promoting obscenity and vulgarity through the YouTube show.
The FIR lists Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, and others under various legal provisions including:
- Sections 79/95/294/296 of BNS 2023
- Section 67 of the IT Act, 2000
- Sections 4/7 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952
- Sections 4/6 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986
All accused individuals have reportedly appeared before the Guwahati Crime Branch to record their statements.
As the case unfolds, Apoorva’s post brings attention to the harassment and gender-based threats that women in the digital space continue to face, especially when involved in controversial public discourse.
