Sydney [Australia], January 2: Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir addressed the recent media reports about leaks from the team’s dressing room, calling them “just reports” and not the truth.
Following India’s loss to Australia in the Melbourne Test, where the team faced an 184-run defeat, some reports claimed that Gambhir was unhappy with the performance of key players and voiced his frustration. The Indian batting lineup, particularly big names like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, came under criticism for their poor form, sparking calls for them to reconsider their future in the team.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of the Sydney Test, Gambhir responded to the rumors. He stated that some “honest words” were exchanged within the dressing room, emphasizing the importance of honesty for the team’s success.
“Those are just reports, that’s not the truth, and I don’t think I need to answer to any reports. There were some honest words, and honesty is extremely important if you want to go on and achieve great things,” said Gambhir.
India is currently trailing 2-1 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after their defeat in Melbourne, effectively ending their hopes of qualifying for the World Test Championship final at Lord’s. The team will now face Australia in the final match of the series at the Sydney Cricket Ground starting January 3.
