New Delhi [India], January 3: The family of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held a ‘Bhog’ of the ‘Akhand Path’ at his residence on Friday in his memory.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and the party’s parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi were among the prominent attendees at the ceremony.
Manmohan Singh, who passed away on December 26 at the age of 92 at AIIMS Delhi, was cremated with full state honours on December 28 at Nigambodh Ghat in Delhi. The immersion of his ashes took place the following day at the Yamuna Ghat near the Gurdwara Majnu Ka Tila Sahib.
The family performed traditional rituals at the Gurudwara, including Shabad Kirtan, Paath, and Ardas, in remembrance of the late leader.
Singh’s cremation ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who paid their last respects by placing wreaths near his mortal remains. Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi also participated in the ceremony after offering their tributes.
Manmohan Singh’s distinguished political career spanned decades, including his role as Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996, where he led significant economic reforms. As the 13th Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014, he is remembered for his steady leadership and contributions to India’s economic growth and modernization. After retiring from public life following his second term, he was succeeded by Narendra Modi in 2014 after the Congress-led UPA lost the general elections.
