Yuzvendra Chahal Shines As Punjab Kings Create IPL History Defending Lowest-Ever Total

Chandigarh (Punjab) [India]: In one of the most thrilling low-scoring matches of IPL 2025, Yuzvendra Chahal delivered a magical spell to help Punjab Kings defend the lowest total in Indian Premier League history—just 111 runs—against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Mullanpur Cricket Stadium on April 15.

The leg-spinner was introduced in the 7th over when KKR were cruising at 62/2. What followed was a masterclass in controlled aggression and guile. Chahal dismissed Ajinkya Rahane, followed by quick wickets of Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Rinku Singh, and Ramandeep Singh, finishing with a match-defining 4-wicket haul that sealed a 16-run victory for PBKS.

Preity Zinta’s Heartfelt Post for Chahal

A couple of days after the historic win, PBKS co-owner and Bollywood actor Preity Zinta took to Instagram to share a nostalgic and emotional tribute to Chahal, recalling their first meeting in 2009 during the King’s Cup in Chandigarh.

“How it started vs how it’s going… I met Yuzi during the King’s Cup in 2009… He was a young U-19 cricketer… Over the years, I saw him flourish… Our last game was a great example of why I have been such a fan of Yuzi over the years… I’m so happy to finally have you back where you belong.”

She ended the post with a sweet “Ting!” and hashtags like #ManOfTheMatch and #SaddaPunjab.

Chahal Credits Team Spirit

While receiving the Player of the Match award, Chahal stayed humble:

“It is a team effort. We knew if we got 2–3 wickets early, we were in with a chance. I always back myself, even after conceding 56 runs in the previous game. I just wanted to focus on getting the batters out, and it worked.”

He also expressed joy at earning his first Player of the Match award for PBKS, affirming confidence in his evolving role with the team.

What’s Next for Punjab Kings?

The Punjab Kings will face off against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 18, and with Chahal in red-hot form, fans can expect another high-voltage encounter.
