As tensions continue to mount along the India-Pakistan border, residents of several villages in Punjab have begun evacuating their homes and relocating to safer areas. The escalation follows Pakistan’s recent aggressive military actions, which were met with targeted Indian airstrikes on Pakistani military infrastructure.
Mass Evacuation Underway in Punjab
According to Bhupinder Singh, a local resident helping relatives relocate from the border region, 12 to 14 villages are currently in the process of evacuation.
“The situation is tense. Villages near the border are in danger, especially at night. People are taking their belongings and moving out. Pakistan has attacked 2-3 times already,” he told media.
Singh was seen loading belongings onto a tractor to help friends and family move out of harm’s way. Another resident, Gurnam Singh, added:
“I couldn’t sleep the whole night. Everyone is worried. People are scared and leaving for safer places.”
Indian Armed Forces Respond Decisively
In response to Pakistan’s provocations, the Indian Armed Forces launched precision strikes on several key military installations in Pakistan, including:
- Rafiqui
- Murid
- Chaklala
- Rahim Yar Khan
- Sukkur
- Chunian
- Pasrur and Sialkot radar bases
These strikes targeted command centres, radar sites, ammunition depots, and technical facilities, using air-launched weapons deployed from Indian fighter aircraft.
Government: Provocation Met with Measured Force
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri addressed the media, highlighting that India has acted in a measured yet firm manner:
“Pakistan’s actions are escalatory and provocative. In response, India has defended itself responsibly and proportionately.”
Misri also presented evidence of Pakistan’s aggression and misinformation campaign, asserting that India would not tolerate any further attempts to destabilize peace.
Civilians Bear the Brunt
While military tensions escalate, it’s the civilians in border areas who face the most immediate consequences. With shelling reported near border posts, families are fleeing with what they can carry.
Security forces and local administrations are assisting with evacuation and relocation efforts, while civil defense teams remain on standby across Punjab’s border belt.
