Jalandhar (Punjab) [India], April 18: A case has been registered at Sadar police station in Jalandhar against Bollywood actors Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda, along with director Gopichand Malineni and producer Naveen Yerneni, under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), following allegations of hurting religious sentiments.
The complaint, filed by a local resident, alleges that a scene in the recently released film Jaat contains imagery resembling the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, which has reportedly offended members of the Christian community. The complainant has urged authorities to take strict action, stating that the scene is disrespectful to religious beliefs and has the potential to stir communal tensions.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter, and legal proceedings are ongoing.
Amid the controversy, Sunny Deol announced the sequel to the film, titled Jaat 2, just a week after the original’s release. Taking to Instagram on Thursday, Deol unveiled the official poster of the upcoming project, confirming that director Gopichand Malineni will return, alongside producers Naveen Yerneni, Ravi Shankar Y, and TG Vishwa Prasad.
Jaat 2 will again be produced under the banners of Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory. While the full cast is yet to be revealed, Sunny Deol is confirmed to reprise his role in the sequel. Fans are now eagerly waiting for further announcements regarding the cast and storyline.
Despite the legal trouble, Jaat has enjoyed a strong start at the box office, earning over ₹9.5 crore net in India on its opening day. The film features a powerful ensemble cast including Randeep Hooda, Viineet Kumar Singh, Ramya Krishnan, and Jagapathi Babu.
