Priyanka Gandhi Accuses Centre Of Avoiding ‘Real Issues’ In Parliament

New Delhi [India], January 31: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday criticized the Centre, accusing it of avoiding discussions on “real issues” in Parliament.

“They (the government) neither address the real issues nor provide any responses. The last session of Parliament was completely wasted, with no discussions taking place,” Priyanka Gandhi said while attending the Budget Session, which began with President Droupadi Murmu’s address to a joint session of both Houses.

In her address, President Murmu highlighted the government’s efforts that have positioned India to become the world’s third-largest economy. She also acknowledged the completion of 75 years since the adoption of the Constitution, bowing to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and other framers of the Constitution.

President Murmu expressed condolences over the tragic stampede at the ongoing Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, which claimed 30 lives, offering prayers for the swift recovery of the injured. She also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away recently, for his contributions to the nation.

The President further stated that the government has focused on making significant decisions for the betterment of women, youth, middle-class families, and farmers. She emphasized the government’s commitment to providing affordable housing through the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojna, including the construction of three million more homes. Additionally, she mentioned the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, which will provide health insurance for six crore senior citizens aged 70 and above.

Following the President’s speech, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Economic Survey in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. This survey will give an overview of the country’s economic indicators and offer insights into the fiscal year 2024-25. It may also provide some hints regarding the Union Budget to be presented on February 1, 2025.

The Budget Session of Parliament is set to run from January 31 to April 4.
