President Droupadi Murmu Emphasizes Vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ For India’s Future

New Delhi [India], January 31 : President Droupadi Murmu on Friday addressed a joint sitting of Parliament in the Budget session, emphasizing the government’s commitment to an all-around development of the country. She reiterated that India’s sole aim is to become a “Viksit Bharat” (developed India), with the government following a “saturation approach” to ensure that no one is left behind in this journey.

Speaking to Parliament, President Murmu said, “My government is working with a saturation approach, so nobody is left in the journey towards Viksit Bharat. We have only one aim: to become a Viksit Bharat.”

The President lauded the government’s efforts toward self-reliance in defense, highlighting how India’s defense products have now gone global. “The country has taken several historic steps to protect its borders and ensure internal security. The government has also taken steps toward self-reliance in the defense sector. From ‘Make in India’, we have now moved to ‘Make for the World’,” she stated.

One of the significant achievements she mentioned was the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link, which will now connect Kashmir to Kanyakumari via rail. “India’s metro rail network has now crossed the 1000-kilometer milestone, making India home to the world’s third-largest metro network,” she added.

On development in India’s northeastern states, President Murmu noted the government’s initiative to showcase the potential of the region through events like the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav. She also mentioned that 1.75 lakh ‘Arogya Mandir’ have been established across the country to improve healthcare access for citizens, with the government waiving customs duty on many cancer medicines in response to the rising number of cancer patients.

Addressing cybersecurity, President Murmu highlighted the government’s continuous efforts to improve efficiency in this domain, especially against growing challenges like cybercrime, digital fraud, and DeepFake. She also mentioned that India had attained Tier 1 status in the Global Cyber Security Index.

The President also spoke about India’s progress in digital technology, citing the success of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which has gained global recognition. “Today, India is making its presence felt as a major global player in the field of digital technology,” she remarked.

Additionally, President Murmu discussed the government’s plans to make India a global innovation powerhouse, with initiatives like the India AI Mission aimed at propelling the country’s leadership in artificial intelligence. She noted that Indian youth are excelling in various fields, including startups, sports, and space.

Furthermore, the President highlighted the rapid growth of India’s aviation sector, with airlines placing orders for 1,700 new aircraft, marking a significant milestone for the industry.

The President’s speech was followed by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabling the Economic Survey ahead of the Union Budget presentation scheduled for Saturday. The Economic Survey provides insights into the economy for the fiscal year 2024-25 and gives an outlook for the next fiscal year.

The government also plans to present several important bills during the session, including the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024, among others.

The first part of the Budget session will conclude on February 13, and after a recess, the session will reconvene on March 10, with the final sitting scheduled for April 4.
