New Delhi [India], January 31: Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP leader, visited the Election Commission on Friday, where he claimed that had the AAP not protested, one crore residents of Delhi would have faced a severe water crisis. He accused the Election Commission (EC) of bias, stating that rather than taking action against Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini, the EC was targeting him.
“If we hadn’t raised our voices, one crore people in Delhi would have lost access to water… Instead of acting against Nayab Saini, the Election Commission is threatening me with punishment,” Kejriwal said. “Neighboring states can disrupt elections by manipulating water supply, yet the Election Commission remains silent. There’s open distribution of money, sarees, shoes, and jackets in Delhi, but the EC doesn’t act against the BJP.”
Kejriwal further stated that whatever punishment the EC decides, he would accept, emphasizing that his team had not requested time from the commission. He said if they couldn’t meet, they’d provide answers at the gate, along with a water bottle for the three commissioners.
The Delhi CM alleged that the rise in ammonia levels in the city’s water was part of a political conspiracy to disrupt the water supply. Kejriwal claimed that Haryana’s response to complaints from Delhi officials was politically motivated. He said that after the Haryana CM stopped responding to calls from Delhi CM Atishi, the situation worsened, with water treatment plants shutting down.
“After January 15, ammonia levels surged and reached 7 ppm by January 26. However, after our protests, the levels decreased to 2.1 ppm, showing that the issue was controllable and part of a deliberate political move to create a water shortage and blame AAP,” he added.
Kejriwal’s claims were heard by the Election Commission, which adjusted its schedule to meet with him, given the importance of the issue during the ongoing campaign period. The Commission is giving careful consideration to his statements about the alleged poisoning of the Yamuna River and the potential mass genocide.
