As Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) completes a remarkable 10-year journey, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with beneficiaries of the scheme at 9 am on Tuesday, highlighting its nationwide impact on self-employment, micro-entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion.
Launched in 2015, PMMY was designed to “fund the unfunded”—providing collateral-free loans to non-corporate, non-farm micro and small enterprises, thereby unlocking opportunities for millions of aspiring entrepreneurs.
According to M Nagaraju, Secretary, Department of Financial Services,
“In 10 years, we’ve sanctioned 50 crore loan accounts with a total disbursement of ₹33 lakh crore. What’s even more powerful is the 68% share of women beneficiaries and 50% representation from SC, ST, and OBC communities.”
The Ministry of Finance highlighted that the scheme has gone beyond numbers—transforming lives across the country. From Kamlesh, a tailor in Delhi who scaled her business and employed other women, to Bindu, who multiplied her daily broom production tenfold—PMMY has sparked a movement of micro-entrepreneurs.
The official statement emphasizes:
“At its core, the MUDRA Yojana is a story of trust—trust in people’s aspirations, and in their ability to build. Even the smallest dreams deserve a platform to grow.”
The scheme offers three types of loans:
- Shishu (up to ₹50,000)
- Kishore (₹50,000 to ₹5 lakh)
- Tarun (₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh)
These cater to varying stages of business development.
The surge in preventive digital lending, paperless applications, and zero-collateral finance has made PMMY a flagship model of inclusive development in India.
As PM Modi connects with beneficiaries to hear their stories firsthand, the celebration marks not just a milestone in lending, but in India’s grassroots economic empowerment journey.
