Jasprit Bumrah’s historic four-wicket haul, Ryan Rickelton’s explosive fifty, and another Rishabh Pant flop headline MI’s dominant win at Wankhede.
Mumbai, April 27:
Mumbai Indians (MI) stormed to a commanding 55-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, driven by Jasprit Bumrah’s record-breaking spell and Ryan Rickelton’s aggressive half-century. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant’s poor form continued, adding another failure to his underwhelming IPL 2025 season.
Chasing a daunting 216, LSG’s innings crumbled after a bright start. Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram opened but Bumrah struck early, dismissing Markram for 9 runs in the third over. With this wicket, Bumrah surpassed Lasith Malinga’s record (170 wickets) to become Mumbai Indians’ all-time leading wicket-taker with 174 wickets.
Nicholas Pooran briefly counterattacked, hammering three sixes off Deepak Chahar, helping LSG to 60/1 after the Powerplay. However, Will Jacks turned the momentum back MI’s way by removing both Pooran (27) and LSG captain Rishabh Pant for just 4 runs, exposing LSG’s fragile middle order.
Pant’s continued struggles under pressure — demoting himself in the batting order and failing again with the bat — have been a major concern for LSG, especially given his ₹27 crore price tag this season.
After Marsh’s dismissal for 34 and Ayush Badoni’s fighting 35, the collapse became inevitable.
Bumrah’s killer 16th over saw him dismiss David Miller (24), Abdul Samad (2), and Avesh Khan (0) in a sensational spell.
Bumrah finished with stunning figures of 4/22.
Debutant Corbin Bosch and Trent Boult wrapped up the innings as LSG were bowled out for 161, well short of the target.
Earlier in the Day:
After winning the toss and opting to bowl, LSG had no answers to MI’s fiery batting display.
Ryan Rickelton set the tone early, smashing 58 off 32 balls (6 fours, 4 sixes), leading MI to 66/1 at the end of the Powerplay alongside Rohit Sharma.
Will Jacks (29) and Suryakumar Yadav (54 off 28 balls) kept the momentum going, before Naman Dhir (25* off 11) and Corbin Bosch (20 off 10) finished the innings with a flurry.
Despite some breakthroughs by Mayank Yadav (2/40) and Avesh Khan (2/42), LSG’s bowlers were largely ineffective on a high-scoring Wankhede pitch.
