Jammu & Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah Calls For Decisive Fight Against Terrorism Following Pahalgam Attack

New Delhi (India) : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday called for a decisive and unwavering fight against terrorism and its origins, following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 innocent lives. Abdullah’s statement comes as part of a broader response to the horrific attack that has sparked outrage across the nation.

In his post on X, the Jammu and Kashmir CM emphasized the need for careful and targeted action, while ensuring that innocent lives are not harmed in the process. “After the Pahalgam terror attack, there must be a decisive fight against terrorism and its origin. People of Kashmir have come out openly against terrorism and the murder of innocent people; they did this freely & spontaneously. It’s time to build on this support and avoid any misplaced action that alienates people,” he wrote.

He further urged that while those responsible for the attack must be held accountable, efforts should be made to prevent innocent civilians from becoming collateral damage. “Punish the guilty, show them no mercy, but don’t let innocent people become collateral damage,” Abdullah added.

The terror attack occurred on April 22, at around 2 pm, near the Baisaran meadow, a popular tourist destination in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The incident has raised serious concerns, especially as it comes shortly after the successful conduct of elections in the region and amid its ongoing development.

In response to the attack, an all-party meeting convened by CM Abdullah strongly condemned the incident. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) teams, stationed at the site since April 23, have intensified efforts to gather evidence and question eyewitnesses. The Indian Army has also launched several search operations in a bid to neutralize the terrorists responsible for the attack.

Nationwide protests have erupted, with demands for stronger action against Pakistan in light of the cross-border links reportedly involved in the attack. In a bid to enhance security and signal a firm stance, India has also decided to withdraw its Defence, Navy, and Air Advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. The move reflects a broader strategy to scale back diplomatic representation in Pakistan following the attack.

The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) met on April 23 to discuss the attack in detail. The committee condemned the attack in the strongest terms and expressed heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families, calling for swift justice. The CCS also highlighted the cross-border nature of the attack, linking it to Pakistan-based militant groups.

As investigations continue and security measures are stepped up, India remains committed to defending its citizens and ensuring that such acts of terror do not undermine the progress made in Jammu and Kashmir.
