Washington D.C. [US], July 24 – Pedro Pascal, the acclaimed actor, has revealed a personal reason behind his consistent on-screen facial hair: he simply doesn’t like how he looks clean-shaven. The star recently shared his thoughts during LADbible’s “Agree to Disagree” video series with his Fantastic Four: First Steps co-star, Vanessa Kirby.
When asked about the age-old debate of whether mustaches are sexier than beards, Pascal used the opportunity to candidly discuss his own appearance. “I grow such sh*t facial hair, but if I were to shave it all off… I really look very [awful],” Pascal admitted, adding, “Strongly disagree with a clean-shaven me.”
He specifically recalled his experience in the 2020 DC film, Wonder Woman 1984, directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot, where he played the villain Maxwell Lord. “In Wonder Woman 1984, I was so appalled by the way I look,” he stated. “I loved the movie, but I was so appalled by the way that I looked that I never have gone back unless it were completely necessary.”
This experience left such an impression that Pascal has since made a conscious effort to avoid being clean-shaven for roles whenever possible. Despite his strong preference, he noted that he would defer to directorial vision if absolutely necessary. “If producers and director Matt Shakman asked me to be clean shave for Fantastic Four and insisted, then I would’ve done it,” Pascal clarified. “But it was a very collaborative creation for all of our looks in the movie.”
The Fantastic Four, set in a retro 1960s universe, also features Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn. The film’s plot follows the iconic team as they protect Earth from threats like Galactus and the Silver Surfer, all while striving to maintain their familial bonds. The movie is set to release today, July 24.
