Adam Gilchrist Shares Positive Health Update On Damien Martyn As Former Australian Star Battles Meningitis

Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist has shared a hopeful update about his former teammate Damien Martyn, who is currently battling meningitis in a Queensland hospital. Gilchrist revealed that doctors have observed positive developments in Martyn’s condition over the last 24 hours, although he remains hospitalised and under close medical supervision.

Martyn, 54, fell ill on Boxing Day and was later admitted to hospital, where his condition worsened, leading doctors to place him in an induced coma, according to ESPNCricinfo. His illness came to light earlier this week and has since drawn widespread concern and support from the global cricket community.

Speaking on FOX Cricket, Gilchrist said:

“He is still in hospital. There will be more details coming out as they come to hand, but certainly in the last 24 hours, some positive signs are the indications coming out of the various tests he’s having.”

He added that the outpouring of support showed how highly regarded Martyn remains:

“There has been so much interest and love. A fine player, terrific fella. I just hope he can continue his recovery.”

A spokesperson from Gold Coast Health confirmed Martyn’s condition remains serious:

“Damien Martyn remains in a serious condition at the Gold Coast University Hospital,” the spokesperson said, as quoted by FOX.
