Operation Sindoor: Pakistan Airbases Damaged, Ceasefire Attempt Faces Early Violations

New Delhi [India], May 11: India’s Operation Sindoor, a retaliatory military strike in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, inflicted significant damage on key Pakistani military installations, according to sources. The Pakistan Air Force Base Nur Khan in Chaklala suffered heavy damage, while the runway at Rahim Yar Khan airbase was reportedly flattened.

The operation, launched by Indian Armed Forces in the early hours of May 7, targeted nine terrorist infrastructure sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK). It was triggered by the Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 civilian lives, including one Nepali national.

Following the strikes, tensions rapidly escalated along the India-Pakistan border, with cross-border shelling intensifying. Multiple areas across Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, and Rajasthan experienced blackouts and high alert conditions amid drone threats and potential retaliatory strikes from Pakistan.

In a surprising turn of events, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) contacted India’s DGMO at 3:35 PM on Saturday to propose a ceasefire, which India agreed to. This decision was publicly echoed when US President Donald Trump tweeted about the ceasefire at 5:25 PM, ahead of any official announcement from either government. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio later added that talks were being arranged at a “neutral site.”

India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed the ceasefire agreement during a briefing, noting that both sides agreed to halt all military actions—on land, sea, and in the air—starting at 5:00 PM IST. He also announced that another round of DGMO-level talks is scheduled for May 12 at noon.

However, despite the ceasefire, Pakistan reportedly violated the truce shortly after the agreement. Pakistani drones were intercepted by Indian air defences over Srinagar, Udhampur, and other border areas. Explosions and red streaks lit up the sky during blackouts enforced in Pathankot, Ferozepur, Jaisalmer, and Barmer.

“India takes very serious note of these violations,” said Misri. “We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility.”

The situation remains volatile, with military and diplomatic efforts continuing in parallel to prevent further escalation.
