Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav Welcomes Five New Cheetah Cubs At Kuno National Park

In a proud moment for wildlife conservation efforts in India, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced the birth of five new cheetah cubs at Kuno National Park on Sunday, April 27. Sharing the joyous news on X (formerly Twitter), Yadav hailed it as a “matter of great pleasure” and a sign of the park’s thriving environment.

“Welcome new guests to Kuno… It is a matter of great pleasure that the population of cheetahs is continuously increasing in Kuno National Park,” CM Yadav posted, while also sharing adorable videos of the newborn cubs.

The cubs were born to Nirva, a five-year-old cheetah, marking another milestone in India’s ambitious cheetah reintroduction project. Yadav credited the achievement to the efforts initiated under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating, “Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a favourable environment has been created for wildlife conservation, which is prospering today.”

Extending his gratitude, the Chief Minister congratulated the entire team of Kuno National Park, wildlife experts, and conservation partners:
“Hearty congratulations to the entire team of Kuno National Park, wildlife experts and every hardworking partner engaged in conservation for this historic achievement!” he added.

Just last week, CM Yadav had highlighted that PM Modi had blessed Madhya Pradesh with the vision to become a ‘cheetah state’ in addition to being known as the ‘tiger state’. He emphasized that the successful rehabilitation of cheetahs proves Madhya Pradesh’s environment is ideal for the species, noting:
“There have been a lot of states where cheetahs became extinct, but today, they have been rehabilitated here.”

In a recent move to further support biodiversity, some cheetahs were relocated from Kuno National Park to Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary.

With the latest addition, Kuno National Park now houses 29 cheetahs — comprising 19 cubs born in India and 12 adult cheetahs. Across Madhya Pradesh, the total number of cheetahs has reached 31, including the two relocated to Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary.

The growing cheetah population marks a major success for India’s conservation initiatives and paves the way for strengthening the species’ future in the country.
