BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) has strongly refuted corruption allegations in the Formula-E race case, calling the charges “politically motivated” and insisting that he has “done nothing wrong.” Speaking to the media, KTR emphasized his belief that the case against him is baseless, asserting that it was a frivolous case without any substance.
This comes after the Telangana High Court dismissed his quash petition in the Formula-E race case on Tuesday, a decision KTR expressed disappointment over. He stated, “I am hoping that I will get a positive result in the Supreme Court. This case that has been foisted in me is a frivolous case which has no substance…I do hope the Supreme Court will hear my plea and will deliver justice.” He further added that he had asked the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officers about their objections to allowing his lawyers to accompany him during questioning.
KTR continued to assert his innocence, stating, “I have nothing to hide and I have done nothing wrong.” He also mentioned his intention to request the High Court for reconsideration on certain aspects of the case, calling it “politically motivated.”
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Telangana has been investigating KTR for his alleged involvement in a money laundering case related to financial irregularities concerning the Formula E race held in Hyderabad in February 2023.
The ACB’s investigation includes allegations of unauthorized payments, some in foreign currency, linked to the event under the previous government. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also filed a case against KTR under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). KTR, along with senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar and retired bureaucrat BLN Reddy, have been named in the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the ACB.
The FIR charges KTR under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) relating to criminal breach of trust and conspiracy.
