In a rare display of cross-party solidarity, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday strongly backed the Indian Armed Forces’ precision strikes under Operation Sindoor, carried out in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead, including one Nepali national.
Taking to platform X, Ramesh reaffirmed the Congress party’s full support for the government and armed forces, emphasizing the need for a consistent national policy to eliminate terrorism emanating from Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
“It must be India’s unwavering policy to completely eliminate all sources of terrorism in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), and this policy must always be guided by the supreme national interest,” Ramesh wrote.
“This is a time for unity and solidarity,” he added.
Congress Stands With Armed Forces
Ramesh noted that since the night of the Pahalgam attack, the Indian National Congress had consistently expressed support for the government’s forthcoming response.
“The Congress Party stands firmly with our armed forces,” he stated.
About Operation Sindoor
The Indian Armed Forces executed a coordinated tri-services strike in the early hours of Wednesday, targeting nine terror camps—four in Pakistan (including Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Sialkot) and five in PoJK—belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Utilising special precision munitions, the operation avoided Pakistani military assets, reflecting what the Ministry of Defence described as a “measured and non-escalatory” approach.
Sources told ANI that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was closely monitoring the strikes through the night, reinforcing the gravity of the response.
Historic Depth of Strikes
According to CNN, Operation Sindoor marks India’s deepest military strike inside undisputed Pakistani territory since 1971, signaling a bold and calibrated shift in India’s counter-terror doctrine.
Unified National Front
Ramesh’s statement is part of a broader national consensus emerging in the wake of the strikes. Political leaders across party lines, including from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, and other major parties, have publicly praised the military’s success.
With international support from countries like Israel, and measured responses from the US and UAE, India’s action is being seen as a demonstration of both military precision and diplomatic restraint.
Conclusion
At a time of heightened national security concern, Jairam Ramesh’s clear backing of the armed forces and emphasis on unity serves to bolster a bipartisan front against terrorism. Operation Sindoor may well mark not just a military milestone, but a rare moment of political alignment on national security.
