In a key decision aimed at enhancing the welfare of state government employees and officers, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved a 25% increase in the limits for retirement and death gratuity, raising the maximum limit from ₹20 lakh to ₹25 lakh.
The move aligns Gujarat’s policy with that of the central government and will benefit employees retiring on or after January 1, 2024, according to an official press release issued on Saturday.
The Chief Minister approved the proposal submitted by the state’s Finance Department, and the department is set to issue necessary resolutions to implement the change.
This increase in gratuity limits is expected to have an estimated annual financial impact of ₹53.15 crore on the state government. The decision reflects the state’s commitment to supporting its employees, particularly in their post-retirement phase.
