Responding to complaints regarding male staff in women-exclusive ‘pink toilets,’ Vice Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Women’s Commission and BJP leader Aparna Bisht Yadav has urged the government to appoint female staff in these facilities to ensure women’s safety.
The suggestion was made following multiple complaints raised during the Women’s Commission’s monthly meeting. Yadav expressed optimism that the state government would take immediate steps to address the issue.
“Yesterday, during the Women’s Commission’s monthly meeting, we discussed complaints that at many places, the cleaning staff in the pink toilets are men. Taking cognizance of this, we have suggested to the state government that female cleaning staff should be appointed instead,” Yadav told media.
She highlighted that the initiative for pink toilets was launched as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and women’s safety campaigns.
“PM Narendra Modi started this campaign to stop women from defecating in the open. Bollywood has also supported this cause through awareness films. We believe the government will act swiftly to ensure women’s safety by implementing this suggestion,” Yadav added.
Additionally, the Vice Chairperson noted complaints about pink toilets being locked in certain areas and assured that these grievances have also been forwarded to the state government for resolution.
