MUMBAI: The marital status of Bollywood actor Govinda and his wife, Sunita Ahuja, has been the subject of renewed public speculation, but the couple has put on a united front by celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi together. Videos and photos from their home show the family, including their son Yashvardhan Ahuja, participating in the festivities, seemingly dispelling the recent divorce rumors.
The speculation intensified after reports claimed that Sunita had filed for divorce at the Bandra Family Court on December 5, 2024, citing cruelty, desertion, and adultery. However, Govinda’s manager, Shashi Sinha, has since clarified that the news is not recent. In a statement to PTI, Sinha admitted that Sunita had filed a divorce petition several months ago but insisted that the matter is now being privately resolved.
“This is old news that surfaced six to seven months ago,” Sinha stated, adding that an official statement providing “clarity” is expected soon. He emphasized that despite the court filing, the couple is united and focused on their family, as evidenced by their joint participation in the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
A family friend also corroborated this, telling a news outlet that while the couple has had their share of disagreements over their 38-year marriage, a permanent separation is highly unlikely. The source said that Sunita is the anchor in Govinda’s life and that he would be “lost without her.”
While neither Govinda nor Sunita has issued a direct public statement, their appearance together during the festival and the consistent message from their team suggest that they are working to keep their personal affairs out of the media spotlight.
