Muscat (Oman): External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar participated in the 8th Indian Ocean Conference held in Oman, where he delivered the keynote address at the inaugural session.
As part of his visit, EAM Jaishankar also launched a logo commemorating 70 years of diplomatic relations between India and Oman, as well as a book titled “Mandvi to Muscat: Indian Community and the Shared History of India and Oman.” The book, published by the Embassy of India in Muscat, highlights the deep historical ties between the two countries, especially the enduring people-to-people connections.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted that Jaishankar’s keynote address emphasized India’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and ensuring a stable and prosperous Indian Ocean region.
During his visit, EAM Jaishankar held a bilateral meeting with Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, the Foreign Minister of Oman, where both leaders discussed the full spectrum of India-Oman relations. Jaishankar expressed gratitude for Oman’s steadfast support and discussed areas of further collaboration.
As part of the 70th-anniversary celebrations, the special logo was unveiled by EAM Jaishankar and Sayyid Badr Albusaidi. This logo symbolizes the long-standing partnership based on history, culture, and strong people-to-people ties. The 70th-anniversary celebrations will culminate in 2025.
Bilateral Meetings and Regional Cooperation
On the sidelines of the conference, EAM Jaishankar engaged in bilateral meetings with foreign ministers from several countries, including Brunei, Bangladesh, Iran, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Mauritius, and Nepal. Discussions revolved around regional and global issues of mutual interest, underscoring India’s commitment to a deeper engagement with the Indian Ocean region.
The visit further strengthened the robust relationship between India and Oman, setting the stage for continued cooperation in both bilateral and regional contexts.
