Raipur (Chhattisgarh): The first phase of the three-tier panchayat elections in Chhattisgarh is underway across 53 blocks on Monday. Visuals from a polling station in Nimora village showed enthusiastic voters casting their ballots.
The Chhattisgarh Election Commission had earlier announced that the panchayat elections would be conducted in three phases on February 17, 20, and 23, with results to be declared on February 18, 21, and 24 respectively.
BJP Sweeps Chhattisgarh Civic Polls
Ahead of the panchayat elections, the BJP secured a major victory in the urban body elections, winning:
✅ All 10 mayoral posts in municipal corporations
✅ Chairperson posts in 35 municipal councils
✅ Chairperson posts in 81 Nagar Panchayats
Union Minister and BJP National President JP Nadda congratulated Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and party workers for the landslide victory, calling it a “historic win” and a reflection of people’s trust in public welfare schemes under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
In a social media post on X, Nadda stated:
“I heartily congratulate Chief Minister @vishnudsai ji, State President @KiranDeoBJP ji, and all BJP Chhattisgarh workers on the massive victory in the Chhattisgarh urban body elections. This historic victory is a symbol of the unwavering faith of the people in the public welfare and tribal-friendly schemes implemented by the double-engine government under the guidance of Prime Minister @narendramodi ji.”
CM Vishnu Deo Sai Hails BJP’s Clean Sweep
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai celebrated the BJP’s dominant performance in the civic polls, stating, “This is a historic day for Chhattisgarh BJP and the state government. BJP has secured a landslide victory, winning all 10 seats with a huge margin.”
He further added, “Congress has been wiped clean in the civic polls, they did not win even a single seat. We want to thank all the voters for having faith in BJP and PM Modi.”
Chhattisgarh Urban Elections Overview
Elections were held on February 11 for a total of 173 urban bodies, including:
- 10 municipal corporations
- 49 municipal councils
- 114 Nagar Panchayats
