Delhi Hosts Special Olympic Day Run; Unveils Logo And Mascot For 2025 World Para Athletics Championships

New Delhi [India], June 22: In a spirited celebration of sportsmanship, inclusivity, and the Olympic ethos, the capital city came alive with the Special Olympic Day Run, organized under the International Olympic Committee’s global ‘Let’s Move’ campaign. Thousands of enthusiastic participants took part in the event, which transformed Delhi into a festive hub of athletic energy.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who graced the event, expressed her pride in the city’s participation and reaffirmed her government’s ambition to host the 2036 Olympics. “I’m very happy that thousands from Delhi participated in this Olympic Run,” Gupta said. “Under PM Modi’s leadership, we are moving towards better sports infrastructure and nurturing talent from every corner of the country. Delhi is ready and eager to host the 2036 Olympics.”

The event was held under the chairmanship of Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha, lending further weight to the occasion. PT Usha emphasized the broader significance of the event, stating, “We celebrate not only the Olympic movement but also the excellence, unity, and perseverance it inspires.”

In another significant milestone, Delhi also celebrated the unveiling of the logo and mascot for the New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships on June 20. Chief Minister Gupta was joined by Vanathi Srinivasan (MLA and Chief Patron of PCI), actor-politician Kangana Ranaut, and Delhi Minister Ashish Sood at the launch event.

The mascot, Viraaj — a young elephant with a blade prosthesis — symbolizes strength, optimism, and resilience. According to the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI), Viraaj reflects the courage of para-athletes and the spirit of inclusivity. The newly unveiled logo integrates elements of India’s cultural heritage with the dynamic energy of New Delhi.

Speaking at the event, CM Gupta said, “Hosting the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships is an honour. The logo and mascot capture India’s soul and the power of para sports. We will ensure this becomes a landmark event for inclusivity and sporting excellence.”
