Trump, Netanyahu Coordinate As U.S. Strikes Obliterate Iranian Nuclear Sites; Israel Closes Airspace

Tel Aviv [Israel], June 22: U.S. President Donald Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shortly after a major American military strike targeted Iranian nuclear facilities, Israeli state media reported on Sunday. Following the attack, Israel promptly closed its airspace as a precautionary measure.

According to Israel’s TPS news agency, a White House official confirmed that Trump and Netanyahu were in contact immediately after the operation concluded. The strike, which targeted three key Iranian nuclear sites — Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan — was described by Trump as a “spectacular military success.”

In a televised Hebrew statement, Netanyahu said the U.S. strike was carried out in “full coordination” with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). He declared that the American operation completed what the IDF had begun during its own offensive against Iran on June 13.

“At the beginning of the operation, I promised that Iran’s nuclear facilities would be destroyed — one way or another. That promise has been fulfilled,” Netanyahu stated, according to The Times of Israel.

CNN reported that Netanyahu held a high-level security cabinet meeting with senior officials — including Defence Minister Israel Katz, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, IDF Chief of Staff, and the Mossad director — which lasted five hours and concluded just after the U.S. strikes were executed around 3 a.m. local time.

President Trump, addressing the nation from the White House on Saturday evening (local time), stated that the operation was aimed at dismantling Iran’s nuclear enrichment capabilities and ending the nuclear threat posed by what he called “the world’s number one state sponsor of terror.”

“Our objective was the destruction of Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat,” Trump said. He warned Tehran that further strikes could follow if Iran does not pursue peace.

An ABC report revealed that the strike scenario had been rehearsed nearly a year earlier in a joint U.S.-Israel military drill simulating an offensive strike on Iranian nuclear infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had warned before the strike that any U.S. military intervention in the Israel-Iran conflict would result in “irreparable damage.”
