Delhi Gets A New Police Commissioner — Satish Golcha Steps In

New Delhi, India— The new Delhi Police Commissioner is Satish Golcha, a senior official in the Indian Police Service (IPS). On Thursday, the Ministry of Home Affairs said that Golcha, an IPS officer from the 1992 batch, will take over right away. Right now, he is the Director General (Prisons) for Delhi.

Golcha will take over for S.B.K. Singh, the Director General of Home Guards, who has been acting commissioner since August 1. The appointment comes barely one day after someone pretending to be a complainant attacked Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at her official home. Gupta’s security team soon caught the suspect, who is charged with attempted murder.

Who is this Satish Golcha?
Satish Golcha is a well respected officer with a lot of experience in the Delhi Police. He has held a number of important roles in the past, such as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Joint Commissioner, and Special Commissioner. He is well recognized for being the Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) during the 2020 riots in northeast Delhi, where his actions made him quite well-known.

Before he became Director General (Prisons), Golcha was the Director General of Police (DGP) for Arunachal Pradesh from February 2022 to June 2023. Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena named him head of the Tihar jail complex in May 2024. He retained that job until he was recently promoted. It’s a big deal that he was named chief of the Delhi Police since he has a lot of experience with law and order and has worked for the capital’s police force for a long time.
