Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], February 24: YouTubers Ashish Chanchlani and Ranveer Allahbadia appeared before the Maharashtra Cyber Cell on Monday to record their statements regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding the YouTube show, India’s Got Latent. The two influencers were summoned for allegedly promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions on the widely accessible show.
The Maharashtra Cyber Cell confirmed that both Chanchlani and Allahbadia contacted their officials, expressing their intent to record their statements. Following this, the Cyber Cell sent summons to the duo, instructing them to appear for questioning.
An FIR has been filed against several individuals, including Samay Raina, Apoorva Mukhija, and others involved in the show. According to Yashasvi Yadav, Inspector General of the Maharashtra Cyber Cell, a total of 42 individuals, including artists, producers, and influencers, have been summoned for questioning. Statements from key figures like Devesh Dixit and Raghu Ram have already been recorded.
The controversy erupted after podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia appeared as a guest on India’s Got Latent. During the episode, Allahbadia asked a contestant a question that sparked outrage: “Would you rather watch your parents… or join in once and stop it forever?” This led to a formal complaint being filed against Allahbadia, Samay Raina, comedian Apoorva Makhija, and the show’s organisers.
On February 18, the Supreme Court strongly condemned Allahbadia’s remarks, with Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh describing them as “dirty and perverted,” asserting that such behaviour must be unequivocally denounced. Following the public outcry, the episodes of India’s Got Latent have been removed by host Samay Raina.
