New Delhi: The lively atmosphere of Vijayadashami 2025 brings the Durga Puja and Navratri celebrations to a close. The celebration is celebrated with unrivaled passion, from the magnificent immersion of Durga idols on the banks of the Ganga to the burning of Ravana effigies during Dusshera. Devotees come together in big groups, dance to the dhak’s beats, and celebrate as fireworks light up the night sky.
Health professionals, on the other hand, are telling people to be careful, especially those who already have asthma, allergies, or other breathing problems. The joyful mood often brings smoke from firecrackers, dust from large crowds, and hazardous chemicals from idol paints, all of which can make breathing difficulties worse.
Dr. Vandana D. Prabhu, a pulmonologist and respiratory medicine specialist at Apollo Clinic in Koramangala, said:
“During Visarjan, there is more smoke from firecrackers and dust from crowds. Idols painted with chemicals also let dangerous particles into the air. These things together make it tougher for people with asthma or COPD to breathe.
⚠️ Watch Out for These Warning Signs
It’s vital to keep an eye out for early signs of respiratory discomfort as individuals get into the festivities. Dr. Prabhu says:
Wheezing, tightness in the chest, and trouble breathing even when resting are some of the first indicators.
In very bad cases, patients may have trouble finishing statements because they don’t have enough oxygen.
If you get dizziness, confusion, or bluish lips, you need to go to the hospital very once.
Safety tips for people with asthma during Vijayadashami
Dr. Prabhu suggests some safety measures to make the festivity both safe and fun:
Always have your inhalers and rescue medicines close by.
If you have a prescription, use a controller inhaler before going to parties.
Put on a N95 mask to keep dust and smoke out of your face.
Avoid the busiest times for Visarjan; go when it’s less busy.
Drink a lot of water to keep your respiratory tract wet and less irritated.
🪔 Have fun and stay safe
Durga Puja immersions and Dusshera fireworks are designed to bring people together, but they can also be dangerous in ways that aren’t often obvious. Families may keep their holiday enthusiasm high by being aware of health risks and taking the right steps.
