The film, which was released on February 14, has been receiving overwhelming response from audiences across the country, continuing its impressive run.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh reported that Chhaava crossed the Rs 200 crore milestone on Thursday, driven by strong collections. He also pointed out that the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti holiday on February 19 provided a significant boost to the film’s earnings.
Adarsh shared on Instagram, “200 NOT OUT: ‘CHHAAVA’ IS SENSATIONAL… RECORD HOLD IN MAHARASHTRA… Chhaava makes a grand entry into the Rs 200 cr Club, aided by the #ChhatrapatiShivajiMaharajJayanti holiday boost on Wednesday [Day 6].”
On February 19, the film earned over Rs 30 crore, nearly matching its opening-day numbers. The strongest markets for Chhaava have been Maharashtra, followed by Rajasthan and West Bengal, which also saw an uptick in footfalls during the mid-week. Additionally, Chhaava was declared tax-free in Madhya Pradesh on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary, further enhancing its reach.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde attended a special screening of Chhaava on Wednesday, marking the 395th birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He praised the film for bringing the story of the Maratha warrior king to a broader audience. When asked about the possibility of making the film tax-free in Maharashtra, Shinde responded, “The government will take the necessary steps.”
Vicky Kaushal spoke about portraying Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, calling it the “toughest role” of his career. Kaushal shared how the role required immense physical and mental preparation, describing the discipline involved as a challenging commitment that lasted over a year.
He said, “Playing such a historical figure requires a lot of discipline, and discipline is tough. If you are not used to discipline, where I was, it becomes very challenging because it’s not just a one-month commitment; it’s a commitment for one and a half to two years.”
Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava also features Akshaye Khanna and Rashmika Mandanna in key roles. With its remarkable box office performance and the audience’s positive reception, Chhaava is poised for continued success.
