New Delhi [India], December 30: The Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday appointed senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Vitul Kumar as the officiating Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), following the retirement of the current head, Anish Dayal Singh, on December 31, 2024.
Kumar, a 1993-batch IPS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, is currently serving as the Special Director General of the CRPF. He will hold the position until a regular Director General is appointed or until further orders, as per an official memorandum issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Born on August 3, 1968, in Bhatinda, Punjab, Kumar holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics. Over his career, he has held various key positions in law enforcement. Kumar was promoted to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in 2009, then to Inspector General (IG) in 2012, and to Additional Director General (ADG) in 2018. He was appointed Special Director General of the CRPF in 2024, a post he will continue to hold until his retirement in 2028.
His service has been marked by numerous recognitions, including the prestigious President’s Police Medal (PPM) in 2021, the Police Medal (PM) in 2009, and the Director General’s Commendation Disc in Silver and Gold in 2016 and 2018, respectively.
Kumar’s appointment to the top post in the CRPF will be temporary until a regular Director General is named.
