Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India]— The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a suspected Pakistani spy involved in smuggling goods across the India-Pakistan border while allegedly working for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI.
The suspect, identified as Shahzad from Moradabad, was reportedly smuggling cosmetics, clothes, spices, and other items illegally between the two countries. However, under the guise of smuggling, Shahzad was allegedly in constant contact with ISI agents and shared confidential information related to India’s security.
“Shahzad has good relations with the agents of ISI, with whom he was in constant touch. Shahzad has shared confidential information related to India’s security with the agents of ISI,” the ATS said in a statement on Sunday.
Following confirmation of this information, an FIR was registered under sections 148 and 152 at ATS Lucknow. Shahzad was arrested on May 19 and is being presented before the court as per legal procedures, with further action underway.
The ATS also revealed that Shahzad provided money to ISI agents operating in India and facilitated sending people from Rampur district and other parts of Uttar Pradesh to Pakistan to work for ISI, with visas arranged by the agency. Additionally, Shahzad reportedly supplied Indian SIM cards to ISI agents to aid espionage activities against India.
Meanwhile, in Haryana, several individuals have been arrested for alleged espionage activities in favor of Pakistan. Haryana Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapoor stated that these arrests were part of increased vigilance and surveillance following Operation Sindoor.
“After Operation Sindoor, we had increased vigilance, and under that, based on information received from our central agencies and state intelligence agencies, anti-national elements were caught in some districts. Cases have been registered against them, and they have been arrested and sent to jail,” Kapoor said during a press conference.
