New Delhi [India], December 19: Two BJP MPs, Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML) following an alleged scuffle outside Parliament. Medical Superintendent Dr. Ajay Shukla confirmed that both MPs suffered head injuries.
Dr. Shukla stated that Sarangi was bleeding heavily from a deep cut on his head, which required stitches, while Rajput had fallen unconscious but was now conscious, though feeling dizzy and anxious. His blood pressure had risen sharply. “Tests are being conducted, and symptomatic treatment has started. We are trying to stabilize both patients,” Dr. Shukla added. The duration of their stay in the hospital will depend on their recovery and medical reports.
The incident occurred during protests outside Parliament, where BJP MP Sarangi accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of pushing another MP, who then fell on him, causing the injury. Sarangi was quickly taken to the hospital for treatment.
Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Dharmendra Pradhan later visited the injured MPs at the hospital. Chouhan condemned the incident, accusing Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party of “hooliganism” and “disrespecting parliamentary decorum.” He called for a workshop to teach the Congress party members proper democratic conduct.
In response, Rahul Gandhi defended himself, claiming that while trying to enter Parliament, he was also pushed and threatened by BJP MPs. He further alleged that Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge had been pushed as well. Gandhi stated, “We have the right to enter Parliament, but BJP MPs were trying to stop us.”
