New Delhi [India], April 8: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sudhanshu Trivedi on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of insulting Bihar’s people and lacking understanding of India’s constitutional history during his recent visit to the state.
Speaking at a press conference in the national capital, Trivedi said Gandhi’s visit to Bihar was more about salvaging the Congress party than addressing public concerns.
“Rahul Gandhi, under whose leadership Congress has seen its worst phase, toured Bihar to solve the party’s issues, but the internal infighting among his workers was clearly visible,” Trivedi said.
BJP Reacts to ‘Chhoti Jaati’ Remark
Trivedi took strong objection to Gandhi’s alleged reference to “chhoti jaati” (lower caste), calling it an unpardonable insult to the people of Bihar.
“With humility and anger, I ask the Congress—who are you calling ‘chhoti jaati’? Our Chief Minister Nitish Kumar comes from the same OBC and EBC backgrounds you insulted,” he stated.
Constitution Controversy
The BJP leader also took issue with Gandhi’s remarks on the Constitution, where he referred to it as “thousands of years old.”
“Rahul Gandhi needs a basic history lesson. The Constitution was drafted on November 26, 1949, and implemented on January 26, 1950. That’s why PM Modi observes Constitution Day on November 26—to educate such misguided youth,” Trivedi said.
‘Failure to Launch’ Jibe from BJP
Echoing the criticism, BJP national spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill mocked Gandhi, saying,
“If Rahul Gandhi’s autobiography were written today, it would be titled ‘Failure to Launch.’ While PM Modi has been a three-time Chief Minister and is now serving his third term as Prime Minister, Rahul Gandhi continues to mock himself.”
Rahul Gandhi’s Comments in Bihar
On Monday, Rahul Gandhi participated in the ‘Palayan Roko Naukri Do’ rally organized by NSUI and addressed the Samvidhan Suraksha Sammelan in Begusarai.
In his speech, he said,
“People say the Constitution was drafted in 1947, but I believe it is thousands of years old. It embodies the values of Ambedkar, Phule, Gandhi, Nehru, Guru Nanak, and Kabir.”
His comments, however, have stirred political backlash, especially from the BJP, who accuse him of historical inaccuracy and caste insensitivity.
