New Delhi [India], April 8: A blast outside the residence of senior BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia in Jalandhar has triggered a political firestorm, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticizing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi expressed deep concern, calling the AAP government an “AAP-DA” (a play on the Hindi word for disaster).
“Since AAP came to power, Punjab’s security has been compromised. From the murder of Sidhu Moosewala to the rise of criminal and separatist elements—this government has failed to maintain order,” Trivedi said.
BJP Questions Intelligence Failure
Trivedi slammed Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, accusing him of prioritizing political games over governance.
“A grenade was used in a major city like Jalandhar, outside the home of a senior BJP leader—and yet, the state government remains clueless,” he said.
“CM Mann claims to know the details of Congress meetings in Delhi through his intelligence network, but fails to detect threats within his own state.”
Union Minister Bittu Voices Alarm
Union Minister Ravneet Bittu visited Manoranjan Kalia following the blast and emphasized the seriousness of the situation.
“It’s frightening that grenades are now being used like toys. Punjab has seen dark times before, but incidents like this—outside a senior leader’s home—create fear,” Bittu said.
He also reminded reporters of Kalia’s legacy and the challenges he faced during Punjab’s militancy years.
Ongoing Investigation
The blast occurred in the early hours of Tuesday and was confirmed by police sources. No injuries were reported, but authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the motive and perpetrators.
This latest incident adds to growing concerns about public safety and rising criminal activities in Punjab under the current administration.
