Washington DC [US]: Sonequa Martin-Green, known for her roles in Star Trek: Discovery and The Walking Dead, has joined the cast of CBS’s new series ‘Boston Blue’, a spin-off of the long-running police drama ‘Blue Bloods’, reported Variety.
Martin-Green will portray Detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter in a new prominent law enforcement family, who will be partnered with Detective Danny Reagan (played by Donnie Wahlberg), continuing the Reagan legacy.
The casting announcement was made during a CBS press event in Los Angeles on Wednesday, where the network also revealed its 2025-2026 TV schedule.
“I’m super excited for this partnership and to be back in the CBS family,” Martin-Green said at the briefing. Wahlberg, an executive producer on the show, called her “not the first choice — the only choice.”
‘Boston Blue‘ was greenlit after CBS canceled Blue Bloods following its 14th season earlier in 2024. The new series aims to explore the stories of other law enforcement families while maintaining ties to the Reagan family through Danny’s continued presence.
Martin-Green’s past credits include The Good Wife, New Girl, and My Dead Friend Zoe.
