PM Modi reflected on his visit, highlighting the warm reception he received and his productive meeting with Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
On Tuesday, the two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral ties and explored new opportunities to enhance their “special bond.” PM Modi emphasized India’s pride in being a “valued and trusted development partner” for Mauritius, pledging to continue working together to promote the interests of the Global South.
During a banquet hosted by PM Ramgoolam, PM Modi praised the strong relationship between the two nations, stating their cooperation would benefit not only their citizens but also regional peace and security.
Recalling his previous visit to Mauritius, PM Modi mentioned his SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision and described Mauritius as India’s “close maritime neighbour” and an “important partner” in the Indian Ocean region.
In a historic move, Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam announced that PM Modi had been awarded the country’s highest honour — The Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean — making him the first Indian to receive this prestigious accolade. This marks the 21st international award presented to PM Modi.
During his visit, PM Modi also met Mauritius President Dharambeer Gokhool at the State House. In a special gesture, PM Modi handed over Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards to the President and First Lady Brinda Gokhool.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), both leaders discussed enhancing their nations’ close ties, reflecting on their shared history and strong people-to-people connections.
