Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) has announced a strategic agreement with SpaceX to offer Starlink’s broadband internet services to its customers in India.
The partnership, subject to SpaceX obtaining necessary authorizations to operate Starlink in India, will allow Jio and SpaceX to explore ways to extend Jio’s services and enhance SpaceX’s direct offerings to consumers and businesses.
Jio stated, “Jio will make Starlink solutions available through its retail outlets as well as through its online storefronts.”
By leveraging Jio’s position as the world’s largest mobile operator in terms of data traffic and Starlink’s extensive low Earth orbit satellite constellation, the partnership aims to deliver reliable broadband services across India, including remote and rural areas.
In addition to selling Starlink equipment in its retail stores, Jio will also establish a dedicated system to support customer service, installation, and activation.
The agreement aligns with Jio’s commitment to ensuring that reliable internet access is available to enterprises, small and medium businesses, and communities throughout India.
Starlink’s satellite services will complement JioAirFiber and JioFiber, providing fast and affordable internet connectivity even in challenging locations.
Jio and SpaceX are also exploring additional collaborative opportunities to enhance India’s digital ecosystem by utilizing their respective infrastructures.
Mathew Oommen, Group CEO of Reliance Jio, emphasized the significance of the collaboration:
“Ensuring that every Indian, no matter where they live, has access to affordable and high-speed broadband remains Jio’s top priority,” he said.
He further stated, “Our collaboration with SpaceX to bring Starlink to India strengthens our commitment and marks a transformative step toward seamless broadband connectivity for all. By integrating Starlink into Jio’s broadband ecosystem, we are expanding our reach and enhancing the reliability and accessibility of high-speed broadband in this AI-driven era, empowering communities and businesses across the country.”
