Amritsar (Punjab) [India], May 11: Despite recent cross-border tensions and the brief violation of the ceasefire agreement by Pakistan, residents across key northern and western border areas of India, including Amritsar, Ferozepur, and Pathankot, reported a return to normalcy on Sunday morning.
Local residents in Amritsar expressed unwavering trust in the Indian Armed Forces, crediting them with successfully neutralizing multiple drone intrusions and border threats in recent days.
“All the drone attacks Pakistan launched were thwarted and given a fitting reply by the Army… So, people of Amritsar trust the Army. There is no panic here,” said Manjeet Singh, a resident, speaking to ANI.
“The mistake they committed last night, when they violated the ceasefire, is highly condemnable. They will be given a fitting reply.”
Another resident emphasized the importance of peace for progress, urging that diplomacy, not conflict, should prevail:
“People are leading normal lives. We are getting ration, water and oil normally… No country can progress through wars. People in India want peace and progress.”
Similar sentiments were echoed in Ferozepur and Pathankot, where daily life continued uninterrupted. Authorities confirmed no fresh incidents of shelling or drone activity overnight.
In Rajasthan’s Barmer district, which saw precautionary restrictions earlier in the week, public life resumed fully on Sunday. District officials announced that shops, markets, and public activities were returning to their regular schedules, with no overnight attacks reported.
Further north in Jammu and Kashmir, peace held firm in Samba, Kupwara, Poonch, and Uri. Residents in Samba reported a peaceful night, apart from earlier firing reported in Akhnoor the previous day.
“Nothing happened overnight. We hope it remains the same. However, we can’t trust them [Pakistan] as they can do anything,” said Jitendar Singh, a local from Samba.
The situation follows the Indian Army’s retaliatory strikes under Operation Sindoor, aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK after the Pahalgam terror attack. Though a ceasefire was agreed upon, Indian officials have accused Pakistan of violating it soon after.
Despite the heightened alert, the public response has remained calm, with residents expressing confidence in the military’s preparedness and restraint.
