New Delhi [India], May 11 : Legendary Bollywood actorAmitabh Bachchan has broken his silence on the Pahalgam terror attack, expressing deep sorrow over the brutality of the incident and profound admiration for the Indian Armed Forces following their precise retaliation through Operation Sindoor.
In a moving social media post on X (formerly Twitter), Bachchan described the gruesome attack in Pahalgam, where terrorists brutally killed a tourist couple, dragging the husband out and executing him in front of his pleading wife.
“While celebrating the holidays, that monster dragged the innocent couple outside, stripped the husband naked, and after fulfilling his duty, started shooting him. Even after the wife fell on her knees and cried… that cowardly monster shot her husband very ruthlessly,” Bachchan wrote.
Bachchan, known for his powerful voice and poetic eloquence, turned to the words of his father, legendary Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, to convey the depth of his emotion. Quoting from one of his father’s most powerful verses, he wrote:
“Hai Chita ki raakh kar me, maangti sindoor duniya,”
(“There are ashes of the funeral pyre, and yet the world asks for vermilion.”)
He then delivered a powerful punchline, invoking the name of the Indian military’s precision operation:
“De diya sindoor! Operation Sindoor!”
(“I have given you the vermilion!”)
The phrase drew a chilling parallel between sindoor—a symbol of marriage in Indian culture—and the ashes of a slain husband, turning personal tragedy into a national cry for justice.
Bachchan concluded with an impassioned salute to India’s defenders, quoting the immortal lines from Agneepath, a poem by his father that he famously recited in the film of the same name:
“Tu na thamega kabhi, tu na mudega kabhi, tu na jhukega kabhi—kar shapath! Agni Path! Agni Path! Agni Path!”
(“You will never stop, never turn back, never bow down—take an oath! Agni Path!”)
The actor’s tribute resonated deeply with the public, as it came just after India and Pakistan announced a new ceasefire agreement, which was allegedly violated within hours.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, addressing the media on Saturday, condemned Pakistan for its repeated ceasefire breaches and reaffirmed India’s resolve:
“India takes very serious note of these violations. Our forces are giving an appropriate and proportionate response.”
Operation Sindoor, conducted in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoK, leading to the elimination of high-value targets, including Yusuf Azhar, a top Jaish-e-Mohammad operative and the brother-in-law of Masood Azhar.
Bachchan’s powerful post, infused with poetic gravitas and national pride, has been widely shared and praised across platforms, underlining the nation’s unified grief and support for its armed forces.
