Amritsar (Punjab) [India]: Amid ongoing border tensions between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, debris believed to be from a missile was discovered in an open field near Makhan Windi and Jethuwal villages in Punjab’s Amritsar district.
Station House Officer (SHO) Harchand Singh Sandhu confirmed the object’s nature, stating, “It is a portion of a missile that was neutralized in the air and its debris scattered across the area. Necessary safety protocols are being followed.”
Indian Army personnel swiftly cordoned off the site, and bomb disposal units remain on high alert to ensure public safety in the vicinity.
Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla visited the site and called for public cooperation with the Army and authorities. “We are prepared to face ceasefire violations. While India only targeted terror camps, Pakistan’s retaliation now puts civilians at risk,” he said.
Meanwhile, a misinformation campaign from Pakistan alleging a strike on an Indian military base in Amritsar has been thoroughly debunked. A viral social media post from Pakistani user @ShamilJawani1 claimed heavy casualties at an Indian base, citing #IndiaPakistanWar and #OperationSindoor.
However, the Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check Unit categorically denied the claim, identifying the shared video as an unrelated 2024 wildfire clip. Labeling it “Pakistan Propaganda Alert,” the PIB urged citizens to avoid spreading unverified content and rely solely on official government sources.
“Pakistan-based handles are spreading old videos falsely alleging strikes on a military base in Amritsar,” the PIB stated. “#PIBFactCheck confirms the video is from a wildfire and not related to any military operation.”
The incident underscores the need for vigilance against disinformation amid rising cross-border tensions and strategic military operations.
