Lahore [Pakistan], January 10: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Friday that four cricket legends—Inzamam-ul-Haq, Misbah-ul-Haq, Mushtaq Mohammad, and Saeed Anwar—have been inducted into the PCB Hall of Fame for 2024.
These four players join the ranks of cricketing greats like Abdul Qadir, AH Kardar, Fazal Mahmood, Hanif Mohammad, Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Younis Khan, and Zaheer Abbas in this prestigious group. Typically, two cricketers are inducted each year, but 2024 saw an exception with four inductions due to the absence of new inductions in 2023.
“On behalf of the Pakistan Cricket Board, I extend heartfelt congratulations to these four cricketing legends on their well-deserved inductions into the PCB Hall of Fame. This honor is a tribute to their exceptional contributions to Pakistan cricket and the global game,” PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said in a statement.
Inzamam-ul-Haq, Pakistan’s all-time leading run-scorer in ODIs with 11,701 runs, also ranks third in Test runs for Pakistan, with 8,829. Known for his calm demeanor and match-winning abilities, Inzamam captained Pakistan in both Tests and ODIs, leaving an indelible mark on the team’s history. He is famous for his 25 Test centuries, with 17 coming in winning causes.
Misbah-ul-Haq, renowned for his technical proficiency, captained Pakistan in 56 Tests, securing 26 wins. He also led the team in 87 ODIs and eight T20Is. Despite never scoring a century in ODIs, Misbah amassed 5,122 runs in 162 matches and remains one of Pakistan’s most respected players.
Mushtaq Mohammad, an aggressive all-rounder, played 57 Tests from 1959 to 1979, scoring 3,643 runs and taking 79 wickets. As captain, he led Pakistan to their first-ever Test win in Australia in 1977. His leadership and contributions to the game have earned him a lasting legacy in Pakistan cricket.
Saeed Anwar, one of Pakistan’s most stylish openers, scored 4,052 runs in 55 Tests, including 11 centuries. He also set a remarkable record in ODIs with 8,824 runs, including 20 centuries. Saeed remains Pakistan’s leading century-maker in ODIs, showcasing his brilliance with the bat for over two decades.
“Mushtaq Mohammad is regarded as one of Pakistan’s finest captains, known for his astute leadership. Inzamam-ul-Haq’s immense talent and match-winning ability have left a lasting impact. Misbah-ul-Haq guided Pakistan to historic milestones, including a series win in the West Indies. Saeed Anwar redefined the opener’s role with his classical technique and ability to excel under various conditions,” Naqvi added.
The PCB chairperson emphasized that Pakistan is fortunate to have produced such exceptional players whose legacies continue to inspire young cricketers, reinforcing the country’s position as a cricketing powerhouse.
