Manan Kumar Mishra Re-Elected As Bar Council Of India Chairman For 7th Consecutive Term

The Bar Council of India (BCI) announced on Saturday that Senior Advocate Manan Kumar Mishra has been re-elected unopposed as the Chairman of the Bar Council of India for an unprecedented seventh consecutive term.

In a statement, the BCI highlighted that India’s legal fraternity, comprising nearly 27 lakh advocates, has once again placed its trust in Mishra’s leadership.

Following his re-election, Mishra expressed deep gratitude to the legal community for their continued support and reiterated his commitment to advocate welfare and the independence of the Bar.

He emphasized that the Advocates Amendment Bill would be introduced, ensuring provisions for the well-being of advocates while eliminating any contentious elements. Additionally, he underlined the need for welfare measures and structured training programs for young lawyers under the Advocates Act and Advocate Protection Act, aiming to strengthen and empower the legal profession.

Meanwhile, the contest for the Vice Chairman position is ongoing, with S Prabhakaran (Tamil Nadu & Puducherry) and Ved Prakash Sharma (Delhi) vying for the post. The election for this key position is set to take place tomorrow, with the executive committee members to be appointed under the leadership of the newly re-elected Chairman.

Furthermore, a national meeting of advocate representatives and members of State Bar Councils is scheduled for May 17 in New Delhi. This meeting will address pressing issues such as advocate welfare, the much-anticipated Advocate Protection Act, and other significant policy matters shaping the legal profession’s future.
