The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced that it will boycott the all-party meeting called by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on March 5 to discuss the impact of the proposed delimitation exercise on the state.
BJP Tamil Nadu state president K Annamalai conveyed the decision in a letter to CM Stalin, accusing him of spreading “imaginary fears” and “misconceptions” regarding delimitation. He argued that the meeting was convened to mislead the public even before official details of the delimitation process were released.
“We firmly believe that you have misconstrued the delimitation exercise and have convened this all-party meeting to spread your imaginary fears and deliberately lie about it,” Annamalai wrote.
He also pointed out that Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during his recent visit to Tamil Nadu, had assured that no state would be undermined in the delimitation process, which would be carried out on a pro-rata basis.
Annamalai further accused the INDIA bloc of pushing the “Jitne Abadhi Utni Haq” (Rights proportional to Population) narrative, claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had refuted such claims in 2023, asserting that this approach would be detrimental to Southern states that had effectively implemented population control measures.
He alleged that CM Stalin was raising the issue of delimitation to divert attention from his government’s failures. “You could have raised this issue in Parliament through the 39 INDIA bloc MPs during the recent Budget Session, but instead, you chose to post about it on social media after facing public criticism for your misgovernance,” Annamalai said.
The BJP has, therefore, decided to not attend the all-party meeting, citing that CM Stalin has no basis for his claims regarding population-based delimitation.
