In a significant security breakthrough, Kulgam Police, in collaboration with the Indian Army and CRPF, arrested two terrorist associates and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a coordinated operation in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
According to an official release, the arrests were made at a routine checkpoint established at Matalhama Chowk Thokerpora, Qaimoh.
The two individuals, identified as Bilal Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Salam Bhat, and Mohd Ismail Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat — both residents of Thokerpora, Qaimoh — were intercepted and taken into custody.
Upon search, the security forces recovered:
- Two pistols
- Two pistol magazines
- 25 rounds of pistol ammunition
A case under the relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Qaimoh, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the duo’s involvement in wider terror networks.
In a related development, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir demolished the house of a suspect believed to be connected to the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack, which claimed 26 lives and left many injured.
The demolished house belonged to Zakir Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Mutalhama village in Kulgam district, who, according to officials, has been active in terrorist activities since 2023.
The demolition forms part of an intensified crackdown on individuals aiding and abetting terrorism in the region following the devastating attack at Baisaran meadow, Pahalgam, earlier this week.
Security forces have heightened operations across Jammu and Kashmir in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, which remains one of the deadliest incidents since Pulwama 2019, triggering nationwide outrage and calls for stern action.
