Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 13: The pre-release event of the much-awaited Dhanush starrer Kuberaa, scheduled for today, has been postponed following the tragic Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday. The decision was taken by the film’s makers as a mark of respect for the victims and to show solidarity with the grieving families.

Taking to their official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the team behind Kuberaa announced the postponement, stating, “The pre-release event of Kuberaa, scheduled for tomorrow, has been postponed in light of the tragic Ahmedabad flight crash. We stand in solidarity with the grieving families.”
Earlier, the team had expressed condolences through another post, saying, “Our hearts go out to all affected by the devastating plane crash in Ahmedabad. We extend our sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims. May you find strength in this difficult time.”
The upcoming film features a star-studded cast including Dhanush, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nagarjuna, and is directed by Shekhar K. The team recently launched its third single, Pippi Pippi, at a well-attended audio launch event in Mumbai.
The tragic crash of Air India flight AI-171, which was en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, occurred shortly after takeoff on Thursday. The aircraft was carrying 242 people, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian. Only one person — a British national of Indian origin — survived the crash, as confirmed by airline authorities.
The flight was commanded by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a senior Line Training Captain with over 8,200 flying hours, assisted by First Officer Clive Kundar, who had logged 1,100 flying hours. The aircraft had departed from Runway 23 at 13:39 IST and issued a Mayday call before crashing just outside the airport perimeter.
In the wake of the tragedy, members of the Indian film industry also paid tribute. Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Aamir Khan were among those who took to social media to offer condolences.
Salman Khan expressed on Instagram, “Deeply saddened to hear about the Ahmedabad plane crash… heartfelt prayers for the families of the passengers, crew and all those affected.”
Shah Rukh Khan shared on X, “Absolutely heartbroken with the news about the crash in Ahmedabad… my prayers for the victims, their families and all affected.”
Aamir Khan Productions posted on Instagram: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic plane crash that occurred today. At this moment of profound loss, our thoughts and condolences are with the families of those affected. We stand in solidarity with the individuals, communities, and responders impacted by this devastating event. Stay strong India. – Team AKP.”
