KIIT Sets Up 24/7 Control Room For Nepali Students Amid Crisis

Bhubaneswar – The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) has established a 24/7 control room at its Campus 6 to assist Nepali students returning to the university following the tragic death of a third-year Nepali student in her hostel room.

KIIT Assures Support for Nepali Students

In a post on X, KIIT stated:
“A dedicated control room is open 24×7 at KIIT Campus 6 to facilitate the return of Nepali students to the KIIT campus. Additionally, a 24×7 helpline [+91 7847064550 & +91 7855029322] has been set up to provide support and guidance. We urge all Nepali students to reach out for any assistance. KIIT remains committed to their safety and well-being.”

Nepal’s Diplomatic Intervention

Nepal’s Foreign Minister, Arzu Rana Deuba, has taken up the matter diplomatically, holding a telephonic conversation with Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava.

In a post on X, Deuba stated:
“After the news of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal’s death in the hostel of KIIT University in Odisha, India, and subsequent reports of Nepali students being shifted to hostels, we took immediate diplomatic initiatives. This morning, I instructed Nepal’s Ambassador to India, Dr. Shankar Sharma, to assess the reality of the incident and take necessary action. He has since published a communique from the Nepalese Embassy in New Delhi.”

Deuba further mentioned:
“This afternoon, I also had a phone call with the Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Mr. Naveen Srivastava. He assured that necessary initiatives and coordination measures are being taken for the safety of Nepali students. The Ministry of External Affairs is actively monitoring the situation.”

KIIT Allows Nepali Students to Resume Studies

Late on Sunday evening, KIIT University announced that it has agreed to allow over 700 Nepali students to return to their hostels and resume their studies, addressing growing concerns regarding their safety and well-being.
