Kerala Literature Festival 2025: A Global Celebration Of Art, Culture, And Ideas

Kozhikode (Kerala) [India]: The eighth edition of the Kerala Literature Festival (KLF) is set to take place from January 23 to 26, 2025, on the picturesque beaches of Kozhikode. Organized by the DC Kizhakemuri Foundation and co-promoted by DC Books, the festival is Asia’s largest literary gathering, expected to draw over 600,000 attendees and feature more than 500 speakers from 15 countries.

“This year’s festival will host two Nobel Prize winners, Venki Ramakrishnan and Esther Duflo, along with six Booker Prize winners,” said Ravi DeeCee, Chief Facilitator of KLF. “Fifteen authors from across the globe will join the event, and France is our guest nation this year.”

Global Luminaries and Groundbreaking Features
The event will feature Nobel laureates Dr. Venki Ramakrishnan and economist Esther Duflo, alongside Booker Prize winners Jenny Erpenbeck, Paul Lynch, Michael Hofmann, GauZ’, Sophie Mackintosh, and Georgi Gospodinov. These luminaries will enrich discussions on a variety of global topics, making KLF 2025 a premier platform for intellectual dialogue.

France’s role as the guest nation underscores the festival’s commitment to international collaboration. Renowned French participants include Philippe Claudel, Pierre Singaravelou, Johanna Gustawsson, and Zeina Abirached, showcasing the country’s cultural and literary heritage. Other notable French contributors include Julie Stephen Chheng, Timothée de Fombelle, and Fred Nevche.

Prominent Indian personalities like historian Ramachandra Guha, actor Naseeruddin Shah, actress Huma Qureshi, violin maestro L. Subramaniam, and flautist Hariprasad Chaurasia will also grace the event. Acclaimed authors such as Ira Mukhoty, Manu S. Pillai, Amit Chaudhuri, and Abraham Verghese will present insights on topics ranging from historical narratives to contemporary fiction.

A Blend of Literature and Music
KLF 2025 will combine literature with music through performances by Ustad Waseem Ahmed Khan, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, and Ustad Mukhtiyar Ali. This unique blend of artistic expressions promises an unforgettable celebration of creativity.

KLF Book of the Year Awards
For the first time, the festival will honor exceptional contributions in fiction and non-fiction with the prestigious KLF Book of the Year Awards. Shortlisted works include The Day the Earth Bloomed by Manoj Kuroor and Lorenzo Searches for the Meaning of Life by Upamanyu Chatterjee in fiction, alongside Dalithan: An Autobiography by KK Kochu and The Identity Project by Rahul Bhatia in non-fiction.

“This year’s festival celebrates diversity and dialogue,” Ravi DeeCee stated. “By bringing together brilliant minds from around the world, we aim to foster conversations that transcend boundaries and celebrate the universal power of storytelling.”
