Kerala Congress Backs Shashi Tharoor’s Reported Role In Global Anti-Terror Campaign Against Pakistan

The Kerala Congress has welcomed reports of senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor possibly leading a multi-party parliamentary delegation to various world capitals to expose Pakistan’s continued support for terrorism.

In a strongly worded post on X, the Kerala Congress said:

At a time when Prime Minister Modi and his External Affairs Minister have lost credibility internationally, the nation needs a voice that commands respect. We appreciate the government for recognising the talent vacuum within the BJP and choosing a Congress leader to represent the country.

The party added:

We are confident that Shashi Tharoor will present India’s case at the global level & correct the mistakes made by the Modi Government.

Diplomatic Blitz to Start May 23

According to sources, the Indian government is preparing an unprecedented diplomatic initiative involving around 40 MPs from multiple political parties, grouped into seven delegations, to tour key international capitals. The initiative is aimed at informing global stakeholders about Pakistan’s alleged continued role in supporting terrorism and to highlight India’s recent counter-terror campaign — Operation Sindoor.

The 10-day tour, scheduled to begin May 23, is expected to cover major cities such as Washington D.C., London, Abu Dhabi, Cape Town, and Tokyo.

This marks the first time that India will send MPs from both ruling and opposition parties to advocate its position on Kashmir and cross-border terrorism at a global level.

Operation Sindoor: Context and Coordination

India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. The operation saw precision strikes by Indian forces across terrorist camps in Pakistan and PoJK, reportedly killing over 100 terrorists. The offensive was followed by Indian Air Force (IAF) strikes on military targets inside Pakistan after further provocations.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju is leading coordination efforts for the diplomatic mission, with assistance from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Home Affairs (MHA), and other key agencies. Reports suggest comprehensive briefing material is being prepared, and MEA officials will accompany the delegations.

Prominent parliamentarians reportedly approached for the campaign include Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tewari, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Sasmit Patra, BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi, JDU MP Sanjay Jha, and former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid.
