Tel Aviv [Israel], February 23: Israeli aircraft launched airstrikes on a Hezbollah site containing rocket launchers and other weapons on Sunday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed. The strikes reportedly took place in the southern Lebanese area of Tyre, according to Lebanese media outlets.
The IDF stated that some of the launchers posed an “imminent threat” to Israeli forces, leading to the targeted strikes. This confirmation came as thousands of Lebanese people gathered in Beirut for the funeral of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, which was scheduled to begin at noon.
Earlier, on Saturday night, Israeli aircraft also struck crossings along the Syria-Lebanon border, which were allegedly being used by Hezbollah to transfer weapons.
This military action takes place under the framework of a two-month ceasefire agreement that went into effect on November 27, which has since been extended. As per the terms of the ceasefire, Hezbollah is required to withdraw its armed forces from areas in southern Lebanon south of the Litani River. Israeli forces have largely withdrawn from most of southern Lebanon, though Israel maintains a presence in five locations with the approval of the United States, due to dissatisfaction with the Lebanese army’s deployment.
