Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], February 23: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized India’s historical role as a source of technology and the nation’s current efforts to reclaim that position during his speech at the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam 3.0 in Varanasi. Jaishankar noted that the New Education Policy (NEP) plays a pivotal role in preparing India’s future generations for the challenges of a rapidly evolving world.
He highlighted India’s ongoing progress in modern technological fields, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and space exploration, showcasing the nation’s leadership in these sectors. “Today, we are trying to recover our historical role, and part of what we are doing through NEP is preparing people for the challenges of the new world,” Jaishankar said.
He pointed out that India’s space industry is largely driven by young talent, and the country continues to lead in AI and drone technology. He also referred to Prime Minister Modi’s recent participation in the AI Summit in Paris, signaling India’s global technological strides.
Jaishankar further discussed how tradition can complement modern technology, citing examples of yoga and traditional medicine. He noted that yoga, initially viewed abroad merely as a physical exercise, has grown in global popularity for its mental and physical benefits. Similarly, traditional medicine, once met with skepticism, is increasingly being recognized worldwide for its potential benefits. “We need to understand the importance of traditional medicine and take it to the next level,” he added.
Jaishankar emphasized that both technology and tradition can go hand in hand, and India’s unique knowledge system is pivotal in shaping the future. Through NEP, new industries, including AI and drones, are being incorporated to bolster the nation’s global technological influence.
